bLU

Progressive indie rock with ocean imagery — designed to be heard from start to finish

bLU cover image

bLU is Giovani Baroni’s debut solo album — a conceptual, narrative record built to be experienced as a single continuous journey.

Every track flows into the next. The end of each song connects to the beginning of the following one. Recurring melodic themes (leitmotivs) reappear throughout, referencing earlier and later moments in the album — an approach borrowed from opera and progressive rock. This is not a collection of singles. It is one long piece in ten movements.

Themes

Lyrically, bLU is about internal transformation, told through ocean imagery: water, fish, depths, currents. The recurring themes across the album are:

  • Not abandoning your essence and inner child in a world that crushes
  • Sinking into a journey of self-transformation — travel, learning, love, change
  • Generational trauma, breaking cycles, seeking absolution, evolving
  • Different ways of relating to the ego — surrendering vs. overpowering
  • Eastern philosophy — being one with nature, being present

Sound

Progressive indie rock, psychedelic, emo, shoegaze, and Brazilian music — a fusion drawn from Radiohead, Mars Volta, Terno Rei, Boogarins, Neutral Milk Hotel, and others. The album is produced with an emphasis on texture and immersion: aquatic synthesizers, phased guitars, heavy delay, ambient sounds, piano, and broken time signatures. Songs change key mid-track, accelerate and decelerate, and many have no traditional chorus structure.

Lyrics in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

About the Project

The album was conceived and composed after Baroni moved to Mexico City, where daily life in a new language and a new continent brought a particular kind of introspection. Produced independently — guitars, vocals, and keys recorded in Mexico City; bass and mixing by Pedro Serapicos (Berlin); drums by Bianca Predieri (São Paulo). Guest contributions include Jorge Sultzer (vocals on Efervescente) and co-writing by Ricardo Baroni and Mardem Humberto (Fishy Boy).

Album ready June 2026. Releasing September 2026, preceded by three singles.
